Tabriz is located 600 km west of Tehran and is one of the largest cities in the country. It is also the capital of the province of West Azerbaijan. The Asarov people live here, the largest minority in Iran, which speaks the Turkish dialect. The city has been an important trade and border area for centuries. The main sights include the Blue Mosque and the huge bazaar.
The production of carpets is very extensive here. The quality ranges from beautiful works of art to simple cheap second-hand products. A good Tabriz carpet has very short hair. The patterns most often consist of a central medallion, surrounded by arabesque and garden motifs. Another popular motif is the four seasons, which reflect the life of farmers in spring, summer, autumn and winter.
Ancient palaces and ruins are often depicted. In the corners there are often depictions of four great Persian poets: Sadi, Hafez, Ferdowsi and Omar Khajam.
